FOR THE BETTERAccept change

Change can be scary and painful, but it can also be highly rewarding and meaningful.

Meet Alex Barnette
Counselor and Therapist in Austin, Texas

I’m Alex Barnette, and I help couples and individuals build more fulfilling relationships.

When my husband and I got married, I thought I had it all figured out. I was in love and armed with experience, years of education about relationships, and a lifetime of watching what I thought was my parents’ perfect marriage.

Then marriage wasn't quite what I thought it would be, and I was humbled to realize I had A LOT to learn.

So while there are parts of romantic relationships that come naturally to me, like the joy and playfulness I experience in them, there are also parts we all struggle with; like vulnerability, trust, and how to express our feelings.

Fortunately, I was eager to learn and I have a partner who remains equally invested in the process.

I feel strongly that relationships can and should be a place to unlock whatever it is that’s closed inside of you so that you can freely express, feel, love, and grow.

If you're not there yet--or maybe if you're with the wrong person--I can help you.

OUTSIDE OF THE THERAPY ROOM

When I’m not working, I’m usually with my husband and our very adventurous toddler. I’m an introvert and homebody at heart, but lately I find that I’m happiest when I’m out exploring something new with my family and friends. I also love to run, write, and begin new books (which I will almost certainly never finish).
